Before lending money: what a debt receipt should include

When lending money, many people trust friends or relatives and do not put anything in writing. Problems begin when the debt is not repaid.

The receipt should include the full names and passport details of the lender and the borrower, the amount (in figures and in words), the repayment date, the date of the loan and the borrower’s signature.

Stating the currency and how the money was handed over (cash or card transfer) also helps avoid disputes later.

For large amounts, it is advisable to have the agreement notarized or to transfer the money through a bank — this makes the evidence much stronger.
